LIVING CROSS HAS 45TH ANNIVERSARY…

Easter 2010 will mark the 45th anniversary of the “Living Cross” which is a focal point in the chancel area on Easter morning. The cross is formed on a base made from Epiphany’s 1964 Christmas tree. Members of the Altar Guild use approximately 150 lily heads, several bunches of baby’s-breath and bundles of leather leaf to assemble the display. The generous donations of Epiphany members and friends have made it possible to carry on this tradition for 44 years. Altar Guild has willing hearts and hands but needs monetary support for our efforts. If you can make a donation to help purchase supplies for the cross this year, please use a “regular pew envelope” and mark it LIVING CROSS. Thank you! from Epiphany Altar Guild.

YOUR HELPING HANDS ARE NEEDED...

The Glory Ringers (Epiphany’s handbell ringers) are desperately in need of more hands so that glorious sounds can be created to enhance our worship services. We are appealing to any adult with any interest in handbells to join us. The ability to read music is helpful, but it isn’t prerequisite to becoming a competent ringer. We currently practice on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. but can be somewhat flexible about day and time for the present. Our goal is to have a group of ringers with basic skills ready when a qualified director is found. Remember, “every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings!” – and this world needs a multitude of angels! Please give handbell ringing a try. We think you’ll find it to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. For more information talk to Dolores Barney, Doug Powell, or Carole Poltrock.

GREEN CLEANING - DRAINS…

Most commercial drain cleaning de-cloggers contain corrosive ingredients such as sodium hydroxide and sodium hypochlorite that can permanently damage eyes and skin. Some can be fatal if ingested. To unclog drains use a “snake” plumbing tool to manually remove blockage, or try suction removal with a plunger. To disinfect drains, pour a cup or two of vinegar down them twice a week. Ordinary vinegar can kill up to 99 percent of bacteria. Taken from National Geographic “Green Guide”. Another drain opener: Pour ½ cup of baking soda followed by ½ cup of warm vinegar. Let sit 30 minutes then flush with boiling water. The Green Team

Do you have ideas on new ways Epiphany can support and further our mission (Rooted in Christ, Growing in Faith, Reaching to Invite and Serve)? Your idea might impact our congregation, our community or have an impact on people far from Elmhurst. Perhaps your idea will enhance an existing Epiphany ministry. Either way, the Mission Challenge Fund was established in the 2010 annual budget as a means for people or groups within the church to solicit funds to help turn their mission related passions into reality. The process for applying for funds is simple and all Epiphany members can apply. Just fill out a Mission Challenge Fund “Request for Support” form which is available in the church office. The process is easy and the one page form includes all the necessary information. There is even a small group of Epiphany members led by Ron Feltman willing to help you refine your idea and fill out the application. Let’s make 2010 the year that your ideas and the Mission Challenge Fund unleash powerful missional growth.

(and that of every one else who joins Donna Johnson’s small group) where we will share thoughts, reactions, and spiritual reflections elicited from the book, Biblical Amnesia, the focus of this year’s Lenten study. This group began on Monday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. and will run for the six weeks of Lent. There is much in this book to provoke discussion and personal exploration about alternative ways to view some familiar Biblical stories and their messages for our present society. Come and deepen your Lenten experience in this group which will complement the midweek Lenten services. For more information, please call Donna Johnson.

The final tallies are not in yet, but we will post all the final numbers after the Children’s Toy & Equipment Resale to be held on March 20, 2010.
