As a component of Epiphany’s mission statement “Reaching to Invite and Serve”, we are committed to local outreach and hands-on serving in our community. Opportunities range from local to national to global locations, and our participants range in age from 5 to 90+. Men in Mission
Epiphany Men in Mission (MIM) was started over 25 years ago to help people in the community who are experiencing financial needs and distress.
MIM provides financial assistance to Epiphany members and other local individuals/families who encounter difficult times or situations through the payment of utility bills, medical expenses, car repairs, and legal expenses, and by providing funds for food and gas.
MIM raises funds through a Christmas Fundraiser Dinner, Annual Golf Outing, Pancake Breakfast, and Theater Dinners. The Christmas fundraiser supports the “Tree of Love and Caring” program.
Sunday School Mission Projects
The Sunday School supports mission projects during the year. In the fall, the students donated 50 “birthday bags” with party supplies to the Humanitarian Service Project in Carol Stream. The bags were delivered to underprivileged families who cannot afford to have birthday parties for their children. In the winter, the Sunday School collected items for the Elmhurst/Yorkfield Food Pantries (toiletries, pet supplies and laundry/cleaning supplies). This spring new toys will be collected for the Special Kids Day program which hosts holiday party for underprivileged children.
Epiphany is one of the participating churches of Elmhurst’s Grace Café meals, providing hot meals twice a month to community members who are hungry, feeling the pressure of the economy, facing a tight budget or are lonely and eager to share dinner, companionship and conversation with other folks. At our last dinner we served over 90 individuals as part of this ministry. Grace Cafe has expanded over the last few years and now includes 13 Elmhurst churches offering a free meal every other Monday from the end of August till the beginning of June. Epiphany provides meals twice a year for Grace Café.
Epiphany also collects food for the Yorkfield Food Pantry. The red shopping cart near the main entrance is filled with food and non-food donations that help keep the food pantry supplied with food year round.
Tree of Love and Caring and School Supply Drive
Needy families in our area are served through a School Supply Drive in the fall, and the Tree of Love and Caring in the winter, among other on-going projects.
Children’s Clothing, Toy and Equipment Resale
Epiphany’s Children’s Clothing, Toy and Equipment resale has been fulfilling the need to provide the community with new and gently used children’s items for over 25 years. Sellers retain 75% of their tagged prices with the balance donated to local charities or families in need. Sellers have the opportunity to pre-shop by volunteering for just three hours. The sale is offered in the spring and fall of each year and is open to all in the community. You can find more information here.
