FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions)
I see your name is Epiphany Lutheran Church. What is a Lutheran?
Epiphany is part of a larger church family called the ELCA, which stands for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Our church is named after Martin Luther, a church reformer who lived in the 1500’s. Among other things, Martin Luther taught that God’s love and forgiveness can’t be earned by us. They are God’s gifts, given to us freely through our faith in Jesus Christ. At Epiphany, we believe that God’s gift of grace frees us to act with love and forgiveness in ways that will make the world around us a better place. What do I need to know about worshipping at Epiphany?
We have three church services: Saturday at 5:30pm, Sunday morning at 8:00am, and Sunday morning at 9:30am. Saturday’s service is smaller, quieter, and a little more like a prayer service with a sermon. Sunday 8:00am is traditional with Lutheran Liturgy and organ hymns, and Sunday 9:30am is more of a blended service with both traditional and contemporary parts. Holy Communion is served at all worship services and all are welcome. In terms of dress code, you will see people dressed up AND dressed down. We really don’t care what people look like, we’re just glad they are here with joyful hearts. So, come as you are – however you are – and join us!
What about my kids during worship?
Nursery care for children under 5yrs is available at all services. However, your children are welcome to sit with you in the sanctuary space as well. In fact, you will often see one of our Pastor’s little ones with her! We have worship bags for children to play with quietly during worship (just ask one of our ushers) and at our Sunday 9:30 worship service, we have a children’s sermon after which children aged 3 through 6th grade are encouraged to go to Sunday School.
I am hearing impaired. Do you have a way that can help me hear worship?
Yes, we do have devices to assist you in hearing worship. Just ask an usher to help you! Additionally, we do record sermons and they are available on the website to listen to later. This option helps some of our hearing impaired people, as they can listen by segments at a later (quieter) time.
Where can I park my car on Sunday morning?
There is a small lot behind the church on Hillside. If that is full, you can use the parking lot at Lincoln Elementary School, at the corner of Hillside and Vallette. You may also use the parking lot of Ahlgrim’s funeral home on Spring Road. The map below shows the parking areas, marked with a blue “P.”
